Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil review
Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil review
Ever since I fell in love a couple of years ago with the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum I've been wanting to try more from the Skinfood Black Sugar line. While the scrub is all the rave on the internet, I tried the strawberry version because it's more suitable for sensitive skins, but I took the chance to finally try the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil when I went to Seoul.

I'm sure you already know about Skinfood, but just in case: it's one the most well-known road shops in South Korea, although I must say that I don't see lot of people on instagram using them anymore. From the beginning of summer 2017, at least in Spain, they are selling the brand at Sephora.

The Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil is supposed to be a "total cleansing oil featuring black sugar, refined rice wine and botanical oils for easy makeup removal and cleansing for a smooth, clear complexion". This oil is part of Skinfood's Black Sugar line, which features the brand exclusive Bio-Tone Up and Skin Renewup, plus multi fruits complex.

The brand states that the 6 botanical oils that this cleanser contains remove makeup for a "cleaner, clearer complexion without sticky residue".

The Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil packaging is simple, and the same as many cleansing oils: plastic bottle, dispenser, security clip and sold with just plastic. But for how similar it is to other oil cleansers' packaging, I must say this is my favorite out of all those.

While for example the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil dispenser leaves much to be desired, the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil one is fantastic, and I think is due to the bigger "straw" that has inside. Sadly, another thing it has in common with other cleansing oils is that the packaging leaks.

Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil ingredients
All the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil ingredients are in hangeul in the packaging, but you can read them here at cosDNA (yes, I've made sure the ingredients in that list match with the ones in the bottle). Apparently there was a former version (or even versions?) of this oil cleanser that included mineral oil, but luckily mine doesn't have any of that.

Its first ingredient, ethylhexyl palmitate, despite being a possible trigger for acne, it's a mix of fatty alcohol and palmitic acid, being therefore a cleanser and emollient. I was disappointed that the actual oils, which are great and include jojoba, olive and tea seed, and even some other great ingredients (betaine, arginine, papaya extract, apple...) start at the middle of the list and are buried in quite a lot of texture enhancers and chemicals. I know the "unnatural" ingredients are there to make sure the formula is stable and safe to use, but seeing how great the middle part of the oil is, it is a little bit disappointing.
One of the great points of the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil is the scent no doubt (unless you don't like scent in cosmetics). It isn't a strong smell by no means, but it is very sweet, almost sugary, and it reminds be a bit of lemons.

It was only a couple of months after I bought the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil that I was able to finally use it, and I was a little bit sceptical of liking it because, as I told you, there are at least two versions of the ingredients floating around the internet, and one of the has Mineral Oil as the first ingrediente.

After having a less than stellar experience with a Mineral Oil based cleanser (the Nars Makeup Cleansing Oil), I didn't want to read the ingredient list and form an opinion of it before I gave it a fair chance, although as you know, I luckily discovered when I decided to read the ingredients that this one doesn't include Mineral Oil.

The Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil is a very oily (obviously, but it's not watery) and runny product, while still being light weighted. It spreads very easily on the skin, and you don't really need a lot of product for it to remove even mascara. I don't know about waterproof makeup because I never use it, but it removes my full face makeup with just 3 or 4 pumps.

As all oil cleansers, you should apply the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil with dry hands in a dry face, massage it, then wet your hands and emulsify it to completely remove the makeup. Like the Klairs oil cleanser, it doesn't foam up, but rather becomes milky.

However, I ended up not liking this Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil not because of how it performed, which was alright, but because every time I would use it I couldn't see for around 10 minutes. It didn't really blind me, but it made me see with glasses how I see without them. And if it was something that happened just sometimes I could tolerate it, but it really was every single time.
If you don't use oil cleansers to remove eye makeup this can be a good one, but there's so many cleansing oils that don't do that...

I bought it at Incheon's Duty Free, but its original price is 16,000 won in South Korea. I know a lot of online retailers carry it, so check it out for a sale price of $9,14 in one of my favorite online shops.
