I know there are mixed opinions on facial scrubs, with people either loving or hating them, and I think it's up to one's preference. I'm on the first group of people, so when I got the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish scrub I was more than ready to try it.

Klairs is a brand that specializes in sensitive skin. I've written more about the brand in past entries I've done about their products, so in case you want to know: Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil, Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap and Rich Moist Soothing Masks.

The Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish scrub is a physical scrub made of black sugar, so the scrubbing particles dissolve with water and friction (therefore it doesn't damage the environment, read more about that in my entry here). The brands states in their official website that it helps removing dead cells and blackheads, and that it will exfoliate the skin and make it glossy and smooth.


Ya sé que hay opiniones varias en cuanto a exfoliantes faciales de gránulo, a la gente les encanta o los odian, y creo que es totalmente cuestión de gusto. Soy del primer grupo de gente, así que cuando recibí el exfoliante Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish de Klairs estaba más que dispuesta a empezar a usarlo.
Klairs es una marca que se especializa en las pieles sensibles. He escrito más sobre ellos en entradas pasadas que he hecho de la marca, así que en el caso de queráis leerlo: Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil, Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap y Rich Moist Soothing Masks.

El exfoliante Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish de Klairs (literalmente pulidor, limpiador facial suave de azúcar negro o moreno, depende cómo lo llaméis, yo moreno) es un exfoliante físico de azúcar moreno, así que las partículas se disuelven con agua y fricción (y por lo tanto no son perjudiciales para el medio ambiente, lee más sobre ello en ésta entrada). La marca establece en su página oficial que ayuda a eliminar células muertas y puntos negros, y que exfolia la piel para hacerla lustrosa y suave.

The Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish scrub comes in a hard plastic jar, so hard I thought when I took it out of the delivery box that it was glass, but it weighs next to nothing. It comes with 60g of product and a protective plastic lid. The only packaging apart from this was a plastic wrap.


El exfoliante Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish de Klairs está contenido en un tarro de plástico duro, tan duro que cuando lo saqué la primera vez de la caja de envío pensaba que era cristal, pero apenas pesa. Tiene 60g de producto y una tapa protectora también de plástico. Además de lo que se ve aquí, sólo venía con un envoltorio de plástico.

The brand highlights black sugar, shea butter and cranberry seed oil as the relevant ingredients in the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish scrub. Sadly, the cranberry seed oil, which has a very high fatty acid properties and is a great anti-oxidant and skin protector, is in the last place of the list. But the other highlighted ingredients, black sugar and shea butter, are high on the list (black strap powder being second and shea butter seventh).

Regarding the EWG classification of hazard ingredients the only one in the high position is fragrance. As I say in almost all my reviews, if you've suffered from irritation or allergies to it, keep it in mind, otherwise (like me) don't mind it too much. There are some ingredients classified as 3 and 4 in medium hazard: tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E), Polysorbate 20 (a cleansing agent), Petrolatum or Vaseline (emollient, so hydrating) and PEG-7 Glyceryl cocoate (basically an ingredient derived from coconout oil).

Out of these, there's really none that are bad for the skin. The fact that they have a moderate hazard ranking has to do with the fact that can be a little hard on the skin, but would usually not damage it. Yes, I listed all of this to tell you that the ingredients list is completely safe even for sensitive skins.

La marca destaca el azúcar negro, manteca de karité y aceite de semilla de arándano como los ingredientes relevantes del exfoliante Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish de Klairs. Sin embargo, el aceite de semilla de arándano, que es rico en ácidos grasos y un excelente anti oxidante y protector de la piel, está en la última posición de la lista. Pero los otros ingredientes destacados, el azúcar negro y la mantenca de karité están altos en la lista (puestos segundo y séptimo respectivamente).

En cuanto a la clasificación EWG de riesgo de los ingredientes el único en las posiciones altas es fragancia. Como digo en casi todas mis entradas, si has tenido alguna vez reacción adversa al mismo tenlo en cuenta, pero si no (como yo) no le prestes demasiada atención. Hay algunos ingredientes clasificados en los puestos 3 y 4 de riesgo medio: tocopheryl acetate (Vitamina E), Polysorbate 20 (un agente limpiador), Petrolatum o Vaselina (es un emoliente, así que un hidratante) y PEG-7 Glyceryl cocoate (básicamente un ingrediente derivado del aceite de coco).
De entre todos no hay ninguno que suponga un riesgo real para la piel. El hecho de que estén clasificados en riesgo medio tiene más que ver con que pueden ser un poco fuertes con la piel, pero normalmente no la dañan. Sí, os he escrito todo esto para que veáis que la lista de ingredientes es totalmente apta para incluso las pieles sensibles.

The Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish scrub arrived when I just run out of my previous scrub, the Skinfood Strawberry Black Sugar, so it was set to a great start. As you can see, it has scrubbing particles, obviously but since they aren't plastic scrubs it's very gentle on the skin as long as you're not applying pressure, which you should never do with these types of scrubs. 

In the jar it's presented as a compact product, but it's really easy to take a small amount from it and really easy and pleasant to apply. It should be done with wet face and hands, lightly rubbing it with circular motions until the scrubbing particles are completely dissolved. 

El exfoliante Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish de Klairs me llegó cuando justo había terminado el anterior, el Strawberry Black Sugar de Skinfood, así que empezamos muy bien. Como podéis ver, tiene partículas exofoliante, pero como no son de plástico es muy amable con la piel si no se aplica presión, cosa que nun ha de hacerse con éste tipo de exfoliantes.
En el tarro tiene una consistencia compacta sin ser dura, pero es muy fácil sacar producto y también muy fácil y agradable de aplicar. Se debe dar con la cara y las manos mojadas, frotándolo suavemente en movimientos circulares hasta que las partículas estén completamente deshechas.

Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish scrub helps a lot with sebaceous filaments and with getting the black heads to the surface every time you used it. By the way, the most surprising thing of this product, at least for me, was the smell. It smells like spices, saffron or cumin, and it's very strong. I like the smell, but I know some of you don't like scented cosmetics. 

Since I have oily skin I use this twice a week and I really like it. If you have drier skin follow the recommendation of the brand and only use it once a week. You also don't need a lot of product, what you see in the photos is what I use for my whole face.

El exfoliante Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish de Klairs ayuda mucho con los filamentos sebáceos y ayudando a sacar a la superficie los puntos negros cada vez que se usa. Por cierto, lo que para mí es lo más sorprendente de éste exfoliante es el olor. Me huele a especias, a azafrán o comino, y es muy fuerte. Personalmente me gusta, pero sé que a algunas pueden no gustaros los cosméticos con olores.
Como tengo la piel grasa lo uso dos veces a la semana y me encanta. Si tienes la piel más seca sigue las recomendaciones de la marca y úsalo sólo una vez a la semana. No se necesita mucho producto, lo que veis en las fotos es lo que utilizo normalmente para toda la cara.

As I've said in other Klairs entries, I bought this as a part of a "deep cleansing package" set made by Wishtrend here and you can buy it individually here for 23$ (this is the new updated version). The price is a little bit higher than what scrubs cost, but it last for very long, remember you don't need big amounts of product. Don't worry about customs because they actually know how to do the custom declaration so it doesn't get there!

Como he dicho en todas las otras entradas de Klairs, lo compré como parte de un "paquete limpiador profundo" hecho por Wishtrend aquí y que podéis comprar individualmente aquí por 23$ (es la nueva versión del producto). Es un poco más caro que lo que son éste tipo de exfoliantes normalmente, pero recordar que no se necesitan grande cantidades de producto. No os preocupéis por las aduanas porque saben cómo hacer la declaración para que no entren en las mismas.
