If you follow me on instagram even a little bit, you probably know that my absolute favorite mascara in the whole world is the Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara, which I already reviewed here. But it's also around 35€ and I can't justify that price with how fast I'm gonna go through it, using it 6/7 days of the week.

Si me sigues en instagram aunque sea un poquito, probablemente sepas que mi máscara de pestañas favorita sin discusión es la Diorshow Blackout de Dior, de la que ya hice una entrada aquí. Pero también tiene un precio de 35€ y no puedo justificarlo con lo rápido que voy a terminarla, usándola 6 de 7 días de la semana.

So of course I turned to the drugstore to search for an equally good alternative at a fraction of the price, and I decided to try the Essence Lash Princess mascaras because I already used Essence on the past and I love it (their nail polishes are some of my favorite) and people can't seem to shut up about how good the False Lash Effect mascara is. But, me being me, I actually decided to try first the last one that Essence launched, the Sculpted Volume mascara, and I loved it so much that I had to go back to purchase the other 2.

Así que obviamente investigué en los marcas más accesibles para una alternativa igual de buena por una fracción del precio, y decidí probar las máscaras Lash Princess de Essence porque ya había usado Essence en el pasado y me encanta (sus esmaltes son de mis favoritos) y parece ser que la gente no puede parar de hablar de lo genial que es la máscara False Lash Effect. Pero, por supuesto siendo yo, decidí probar primero la última que lanzaron al mercado, la Sculpted Volume, y me gustó tantísimo que compré las otras 2.

There are three types of Essence Lash Princess mascara: Sculpted Volume, False Lash Effect and Volume.

Hay tres tipos de máscara en la familia Lash Princess de Essence: Sculpted Volume (volumen esculpido), False Lash Effect (efecto pestañas postizas) y Volume (volumen).

I find that the three of the Lash Princess mascaras are quite different all around, and that different people might like different ones, so I decided to do this "ultimate comparison and review" entry- which is obviously subjective (throwing that disclaimer out there just in case). The order in which I talk about them is the one I try them, but at the end I'll explain which one and why is my favorite out of the three.

Also, a little note: I'm sorry for how the Sculpted Volume mascara looks, but I've been using it for months and it gets like this just by storing it.

Personalmente cada una de las Lash Princess me parecen bastante diferentes entre ellas, y que cada una puede gustar a diferentes personas, así que decidí hacer ésta entrada "reseña y comparación definitiva", que por supuesto es totalmente subjetiva (dejo claro eso por si acaso). El orden en el que hablo de ellas es en el que las probé, pero al final explicaré cual es mi favorita de las tres.
Por cierto, una nota: perdón por el estado en el que está la Sculpted Volume, pero la llevo usando meses y se ha quedado así de guardarla.

The wand of this Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara is curved, which let me say I hate. I find this wand (and not only this, but all curved ones) unpractical and useless. I rarely curl my lashes because I don't really need it, but this doesn't enhance the duration of the curl or make a "curler" effect.

El cepillo de la Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume es curvado, cosa que odio. Me parece que los cepillos así son muy poco prácticos e inútiles. Rara vez me rizo las pestañas porque no lo necesito del todo, pero estos cepillos no son mejores en sostener el "rizo" y tampoco hacen un efecto parecido.

I find the Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara formula to be the perfect one: not to wet that you have to be careful to not even blink because it will smudge everywhere, but not to dry that you have to apply at least 3 coats for the mascara to show. I was wary that it will have fibers, which I'm not a fan of, but it doesn't.

La formula de la Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume me parece que es la máscara perfecta: no demasiado húmeda de las que no puedes ni pestañear porque se emborrona por todas partes, pero no seca de forma que tengas que aplicar por lo menos 3 capas de máscara para que se vea. Me daba miedo que tuviera fibras, de lo que tampoco soy muy fan, pero no tiene.

I love the Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara effect, it elongates lashes and adds volume, although it does a better job at the first one. It's very easy to apply in a way that lashes don't clump together, and I have never have any problem with areas in which more mascara was concentrated.

Me encanta el efecto de la Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara da, elonga las pestañas y da volumen, aunque hace mejor lo primero. Es muy fácil de aplicar evitando que las pestañas se junten, y nunca he tenido problema con zonas en las que se concentre más la máscara.

The thing that impressed me more about the Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara was how great its duration was. It doesn't smudge, it doesn't disappear... it just stays in place giving the same effect- and I've tried it for more than 10 hours of wear.

Lo que más me impresiona de la Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara fue lo bien que dura. No se corre, no desaparece... se queda donde la aplicas, dando el mismo efecto hasta desmaquillar (y la he probado durante más de 10 horas).

I love the type of wand the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara has: straight and thinner on the outer part, so it's easier to reach the eyelashes on the inner corners, and add more mascara int he base of the outer ones (a trick I do to elongate me eyes a bit and so that the top lashes don't get tangled with the lower ones). It's sturdy and long, so it's easy to maneuver with it.

Me encanta el tipo de "cepillo" que la Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara tiene: recto y afinándose hacia fuera, haciendo que sea más fácil llegar a las pestañas de la zona interior, y el añadir máscara en la base de las de la zona de fuera (un truco que suelo hacer para alargar mis ojos y para que las pestañas de arriba y las de abajo no se enreden). Es robusto y largo, así que es fácil de manejar.

I had high hopes for the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara, specially after seeing the wand but this formula... If you like wet formulas, which you probably do if you have short lashes, this is the one for you. The formula is very very wet, and therefore very very easy to apply too much in one go, because even after removing excess from the wand, there is usually much more mascara that what I like to apply.

Tenía muchas esperanzas puestas en la Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara, sobre todo después de ver el cepillo pero es que la fórmula... Si te gustan las fórmulas húmedas, lo que probablemente hagas si tienes pestañas cortas, ésta es la adecuada para ti. La formula es muy muy húmeda, y por lo tanto muy muy fácil el aplicar demasiado de una pasada, porque es que por lo general incluso después de "descargar" sigue habiendo mucho más producto que lo que me gusta aplicar.

I must say I'm not impressed by the effect the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara, although maybe I was waiting too much from it from the hype. I also think it's because I have quite long lashes, so this isn't really the one for me. I usually apply my mascara with fast zig zag motions, but I can't do that with this Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara because it leaves a clumping mess in my eyes. It makes my lashes look good if I go slow and by sections: first the outer corner, then center, then inner corner, then mixing all of them.

Debo decir que no me impresiona el efecto de la Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara, aunque igual estaba esperando demasiado de ello por la fama. También porque creo que de por sí ya tengo las pestañas bastante largas, así que ésta no es la adecuada para mí. Normalmente me aplico la máscara en movimiento zig zag rápidos, pero no puedo hacerlo con la Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara porque me deja unos pegotes impresionantes. Deja las pestañas bien si voy despacio y por secciones: primero la zona de fuera, luego la del centro, luego la interna, después uniéndolas.

I could overlook the formula of the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara if the duration was good, but I don't like it neither. The formula being so wet it takes a while to dry down, and even then, during the day it's bleeds and smudges. With this one, at the end of the day I always have mascara on the lower and outer part of my eyes, smudged, and sometimes, usually when I've applied more than a couple of coats, I also have it on my cheeks. Not great duration, specially when the Sculpted Volume one is so great at it.

Podría ignorar la fórmula de la Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara si la duración fuera buena, pero es que tampoco me gusta. Como la fórmula es tan húmeda le lleva bastante tiempo secarse, e incluso cuando lo hace, durante el día sangra y se corre. Con ésta, al final del día siempre tengo máscara en la zona de debajo y afuera de los ojos, emborronada, y a veces, normalmente cuando me he aplicado más de un par de capas, también tengo en las mejillas. No tiene una buena duración, especialmente si se compara con la genial que tiene la Sculpted Volume.

The wand of the Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara is pretty unique and personally the first time I've seen it: the length of the bristles is different, although longer on the outer 2/4 of the brush. They also twist around the wand, so it gives off the "illusion" of a snake moving. I was skeptical to this brush, because I tend to prefer straight ones, but when I got how to use it correctly- this is great. There definitely is a learning curve with it, at least for me, which I talk about more on the effect part.

El cepillo de la Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara es bastante único y la primera vez que lo he visto: la longitud de las fibras es diferente, siendo más largas hacia 2/4 en la zona exterior del cepillo. También se tuercen por el cepillo, dan la "ilusión" del movimiento de una serpiente. Era escéptica a éste cepilla la verde, porque prefiero los rectos, pero cuando aprendí a usarlo correctamente... es genial. Sin duda hay una curva de aprendizaje, por lo menos para mí, de la que hablo en la parte de efecto.

Formula

The Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara formula sits right in the center of the other two- it's not very wet, but it's neither a "perfect" formula. It takes a little bit to dry down, and it's better to wait between coats so it doesn't clump, but once it dries (which honestly doesn't take long) it's a great formula.

La formula de la Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara está a medio camino entre las otras dos: no es muy húmeda, pero tampoco es lo que considero la fórmula "perfecta". Le lleva un poco secarse del todo, y es mejor esperar entre capas para que no se formen grumos, pero una vez que se seca (que no le lleva mucho tiempo, por cierto) es una fórmula genial.

I kind of regret taking this photo to show the Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara, because I applied the way I usually do, in zig zag motions as I've said before. I wasn't a fan at all of this mascara at the beginning, but once I learned how to properly use the brush for my advantage- I love it. I apply it in rotation, rotating the brush agains my lashes, and this way it thickens my lashes a lot while still giving them a slight length, although not as much as the one that the Sculpted Volume one gives.

Me arrepiento un poco de usar ésta foto para enseñar la Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara, porque la apliqué del modo en el que aplico las máscaras de pestañas, en movimientos rápidos de zig zag. No era muy fan de ésta máscara al principio, pero cuando aprendí a usar el cepillo me empezó a encantar. La aplico rotando, girando el cepillo contra las pestañas, y de ésta forma las espesa mucho a la vez que as alarga ligeramente, aunque no tanto como lo hace la Sculpted Volume.

Duration

As far as lasting power and effect, the Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara is great. It doesn't smudge at the end of the day, and it holds the effect of the lashes without weighing them down, which it sometimes happens to me. 

En lo que a duración del producto y del efecto se refiere, la Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara es fantástica. Nunca se corre hacia el final del día, y el efecto en las pestañas dura, sin bajarlas, algo que me suele pasar.

Veredict

I honestly don't get the hype around the False Lash Effect mascara, when the other two, again in my opinion, are vastly superior. At the beginning of using these three I had really clear that my favorite was the Sculpted Volume one, but the more I used the Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara, and learned how to "properly" use the wand to my advantage, that more I loved it- and it has really became my favorite.

I just wish that there was a mascara with the Sculpted Volume formula, but the Volume wand. And I know that I can always change the wands on the mascaras after washing them properly, but also... is there really a need for that?


Sinceramente no entiendo la fama de la False Lash Effect, cuando pienso que las otras dos son mucho más superiores. Al principio de tener las tres en rotación para probarlas tenía muy claro que mi favorita era la Sculpted Volume, pero cuando más usaba la Essence Lash Princess Volume mascara, y aprendí a usar el cepillo "correctamente", más me gustaba- y es que se ha convertido en mi favorita indiscutible.

Me gustaría que hubiera una con la fórmula de la Sculpted Volume, pero el cepillo de la Volume. Y ya sé que siempre puedo limpiar y cambiar los cepillos pero... tampoco tengo necesidad de ello, ¿no?
