Experience has made me realize that I should never use astringents toners during winter. It was when my skin around my chin was totally chapped and I couldn't get rid of it when I decide to try another hydrating toner. When I went to Seoul and bought Skinfood's Black Sugar Perfect First Serum (review here) they gave me some samples of this toner, I gave those one a try for about two weeks morning and night (yes, it lasted me that much), and since I saw improvements, I decided to buy it.

Por experiencia, me ha quedado más que claro que no debo utilizar tónicos astringentes, al menos durante el invierno. Después de verano la zona de la barbilla se me quedó totalmente pelada y no había manera de recuperarla, por lo que me decidí a comprarme un tónico hidratante. Cuando fui a Seúl y me compré el Black Sugar Perfect First Serum de Skinfood (la entrada se puede ver aquí) me dieron un montón de muestras de éste tónico, tantas que me duraron dos semanas dándome noche y día. Como noté mejoría, me decidí casi sin pensarlo por comprar éste.

Skinfood claims that the Gold Caviar Toner "refines skin texture with gold particles that can be seen with the naked eyes". That last part is clearly true, you can see the particles floating around. They also state that the addition of Russian caviar provides moisture, nutrition and resilience to the skin.

The toner comes in a 145ml capacity cristal bottle, without box, just wrapped in plastic. It may seem a little bit... non fashionable? but I think it's great because a lot of times items come in a lot of unnecessary package that damages the environment, both with the producing system and the recyclable one (if people do it, that's it).

En la web de Skinfood dicen que éste tónico aclara la textura de la piel por las partículas de oro que se pueden ver a simple vista. ésta última parte, obviamente, es totalmente cierta. También dicen que tiene caviar ruso, lo que proporciona hidratación, nutrición y elasticidad a la piel.

El tónico viene en una botella de cristal de 145ml de capacidad, sin caja de cartón, simplemente envuelta en plástico. Puede parece un poco cutre, pero estoy totalmente a favor de ello, ya que muchas veces los productos vienen con embalaje innecesario que contaminan tanto en su proceso de producción como en el de reciclaje (si es que la gente recicla).

Anyway, toners are to be used after cleansing the face but since this Skifnood Gold Caviar Toner is a hydrating one, it should be applied with bare hands and not with cotton. The screwcap is adorable, with a little angel on it like the photo shows. Also great that it has this system and then has a little white lid (same system the mentioned serum has). Regarding smell, since I enjoy cosmetics smells so much and i know some people don't like when they smell, this one doesn't smell to anything in particular to me- just your regular cream smell. obviously it doesn't transfer to the skin once it is absorbed.

Como ya sabréis, los tónicos se utilizan después de haber limpiado la cara con un limpiador. Éste es hidratante, por lo que se debe aplicar directamente con las manos y nunca con un disco de algodón como se aplican los tónicos astringentes. El tapón a rosca es una monada, tiene un angelito como se ve en la foto. Igual que el sérum, al desenroscar el tapón tiene otro tapón de blanco de seguridad, que me parece una idea genial. Como sabéis que a mí me encantan los olores de los cosméticos y sé que hay gente que los odia, sobre éste no hay mucho que decir: huele a crema de la cara, sin ningún otro olor característico que al menos yo note. Sobra decir que una vez absorbido, no se transfiere el olor a la piel.

The not so great part of this bottle is that you have to shake it to get the product out, which might be good in the ones to apply with cotton (and I don't like it for those ones neither) but it's horrible for this one. I do it little by little, because the first times I used I ended with a lot more of product than what I needed.

With this toner a little product a little goes a long way, better keep adding product than ending with your face literally soaked in product (speaking from experience). The product is water based and therefore very runny, but it is also kind of sticky and "fat".

De lo que sí que no puedo hablar maravillas es del sistema de extraer el producto. Puede ser el mejor para los que se aplican con algodón (aunque yo también estoy en su contra en esos casos) pero es horrible en éste. Literalmente, hay que sacudir la botella para sacar el tónico, controlando que no se formen tapones porque is no luego sale todo de golpe. Yo voy dando pequeñas sacudidas y voy dándomelo después de cada una de ellas, para poder controlar todo lo posible la cantidad de producto que salga (hablo desde la experiencia).

El tónico tiene como principal ingrediente el agua y por lo tanto es escurridizo, sin embargo también es algo pegajoso y con una formula un poco "gorda".

Skinfood Gold Caviar Toner is very hydrating, but I have noticed that when my skin is a little bit dryer than usual, it does irritate me... And I'm positive that it is related to the content of alcohol in the toner. It's not in the first ingredients (therefore it doesn't have a really high concentration of it), but it's high enough that my sensitive skin notices it in really rough days. On a positive note, 80% of the time, this toner does wonders to me and really hydrate my skin. Still, that 20% really leaves me wondering if I should re-purchase it.

Aunque es verdad que éste tónico es muy hidratante, también he notado que cuando la piel me la está jugando y está un poco más seca de lo habitual, me irrita. No es una sensación persistente, pero la piel me escuece un poco al aplicármelo. Esto, desde mi humilde opinión, es debido a la concentración de alcohol que tiene. Si bien es verdad que no está demasiado alto en la lista y por tanto no tiene una gran concentración, está lo suficientemente alto como para que mi piel extra-sensible lo note en los días malos. Mirándolo desde el lado positivo, el 80% de las veces que utilizo el tónico me va genial y noto que hidrata; sin embargo, ese 20% de las veces es el que me hace pensármelo dos veces antes de volver a comprármelo.

However, if your skin isn't as sensitive as mine, I would totally recommend this one as a hydrating toner, even if it's in the more expensive side of Skinfood's products. You can buy it here for about $27. The price is a little bit higher than in Korea, where I bought it.

Si vuestra piel no es tan sensible como la mía, os recomiendo totalmente éste tónico como un plus de hidratación, aunque sea uno de los productos "caros" de Skinfood. Podéis comprarlo aquí por unos 26€. Obviamente el precio es algo más caro que en Corea, donde lo compré.
