As I explained in the review I did on The Body Shop's Seaweed cleanser (click here to read it), I bought this Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner from The Body Shop because I was going on a trip and I didn't want to bring all of my heavy full sized products. I decided to buy this one because I rarely use Tea Tree product and since I was going through a break out, I wanted to give it a try.

The Body Shop claims that this Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner is a refreshing toner that controls excess oil, and it's targeted towards oily and acne prone skins. It is supposed to do a lot of things: remove dirt, make up "leftovers" and excess oil, helps with oil control so your face doesn't show that very unflattering oily shine, mattifies the skin, tones the skin and helps preventing "troubles" (all of this taken from their official Spanish online store).


Tal y como expliqué en la entrada que publiqué del limpiador de algas marinas de The Body Shop (click here para leerla), compré éste Tónico Purificante de Árbol de Té porque iba a un viaje y no quería llevar todos los productos y sus pesadas botellas. Decidí comprar éste tónico porque rara vez utilizo cosméticos que contengan Árbol de Té y como estaba pasando por un bache con la piel, quería darle una oportunidad.

The Body Shop dice que éste Tónico Purificante de Árbol de Té es un "tónico refrescante que elimina el exceso de grasa de la piel", por lo que está dirigido para pieles grasas y con tendencia acnéica. Se supone que hace muchas más cosas también: elimina restos de suciedad, maquillaje y exceso de grasa, ayuda a controlar los brillos, matifica la piel y tonifica y ayuda a prevenir imperfecciones (todo esto sacado de su página web oficial en España).

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner is in a way a biphasic toner: before using it, you have to shake the bottle so the liquid and the mattifying powder mix. In the photo you can see that at the bottom of the bottle there's kind of white "residue", which is that mattifying powder. This is an astringent toner so it is to be used with cotton pads. As for the consistency, it's totally liquid.

Honestly, I barely used it until October 2016, so about 2 months after I bought it. Before, I would only use it sporadically and like it quite enough, but I changed that opinion ever since I started using it regularly in my morning skincare routines.

El Tónico Purificante de Árbol de Té de The Body Shop es, de cierta manera, un tónico bifásico: antes de usarlo se debe agitar para mezclar los polvos matificantes con el líquido verde. En la foto de arriba se puede apreciar cierto "residuo" en el fondo de la botella, que son en realidad los mencionados polvos matificantes. Éste es un tónico astringente por lo que hay que usarlo con algodón. La consistencia es totalmente líquida.

La verdad que apenas lo utilicé hasta Octubre de 2016, sobre 2 meses después de haberlo comprado. Antes de eso, al utilizarlo esporádicamente, me gustó bastante, pero cambié de opinión desde que lo incluí en mi rutina diaria de las mañanas.

Before getting into my actual opinion, I'm going to break the ingredients of The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner real fast. I didn't even need to search for anything to be disgusted by the second ingredient (and therefore in high concentration in the product): Alcohol Denat. This is terrible for skin overall and for sensitive skin (like mine) in particular.

As I did with the cleanser's entry, I've used the 화해 (Hwahae) app to locate all the troublesome ingredients and I was again surprised with the amount of bad ingredients it has:


Antes de decir mi opinión como tal, voy a hablar rápidamente de los ingredientes del Tónico Purificante de Árbol de Té de The Body Shop. No tuve que buscar nada para ver bastante enfadada que el segundo ingrediente (y por tanto presente en alta concentración): Alcohol Denat. Éste es horrible para la piel en general y para la piel sensible (como la mía) en particular.
Como hice con la entrada del limpiador, he usado la aplicación 화해 (Hwahae) para localizar todos los ingredientes que puedan ocasionar problemas y, de nuevo, me quede sorprendida con la cantidad de ellos. No traduzco los siguientes pero el primer punto son los de riesgo medio y el segundo los de alto riesgo. El Alcohol Denat además tiene la etiqueta de "precaución" y especifican "evitar en pieles grasas, causa irritación" y "evitar en pieles sensibles, causa irritación".

So, tell me, how is this Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner made for oily and acne prone skin when the second ingredient is Alcohol Denat, which is advised to be avoided by those skin types? I can't wrap my head around as to why does a toner for oily or acne prone skins with this satan ingredient, when it can't be used by us (most acne prone skin is sensitive, I know not every one, but most of us).

The hazard of the alcohol denat is crystal clear. This was by far the most uncomfortable toner I have  ever used. After applying The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner my skin was red, itchy and tight in the most uncomfortable way possible. At first I thought that this was due to the tea tree, but it's clearly not.

It smells like regular Tea Tree which I hate, but some people seem to love it. So if you don't have oily, sensitive or acne prone you might like this? But it would somehow pointless since Tea Tree is used for troubled skin. 

Apart from the disgusting sensation and reaction it leaves on my skin and the smell, the main reason I don't like this toner is because it broke me out. It didn't give me any big breakout zones, but I got some pimples around my face that I didn't have before incorporating this into my daily routine. I'm also suspicious that it gave me some black heads I now have on my forehead, because I usually never have blackheads and, again, they appeared after I started using this regularly.

Éste tónico huele a árbol de té, olor que odio, pero a alguna gente parece gustarle. Así que si no tenéis la piel grasa, con tendencia acnéica o sensible os puede gustar, aunque también sería un poco sinsentido usarlo porque el Árbol de Té es para pieles con "problemas".

Dejando aparte la sensación y reacción malísima que me deja en la piel y el olor, la razón de peso por la que no me gusta éste tónico es porque me reaccionó la piel a él. No me dio ninguna gran zona donde me salieran granos, si no varios repartidos por la cara, que no tenía antes de incorporar éste a mi rutina diaria. También sospecho que es el causante de los puntos negros que tengo en la frente, porque prácticamente nunca tengo de esos, y, de nuevo, sólo me salieron al incorporar éste tónico a mi rutina.

I don't think it's necessary for me to do it, but I will clarify just in case: I hated this, and I don't recommend this to anyone. It's one of the worst toners I have ever tried. What the hell, The Body Shop?

I honestly can't believe how this product made The Body Shop "40 icons" list. I was reading the reviews on the Spanish website and I was baffled, I honestly don't believe 90% of them.


Creo que no es necesario que especifique pero, por si acaso: odio éste tónico y no se lo recomendaría a nadie. Es uno de los peores tónicos que he probado. Alucino un poco, The Body Shop.
De verdad que no me puedo creer que esté entre los "40 iconos" de The Body Shop. Estaba leyendo antes las opiniones en la web española y estoy sorprendida, la verdad que no me creo el 90% de las mismas.
